Case Study - Enterprise Reporting Transformation through a Data and Visualisation Hub
Crystal GanzorigCLIENT OVERVIEW
A major coal mining operator with assets along Australia’s East Coast was building out its digital strategy to support more data-informed operations. As part of this transformation, the client sought to uplift its reporting and analytics capabilities to drive operational efficiency, improve performance visibility, and create a more consistent and scalable approach to decision-making across its sites.
THE CHALLENGE
Reporting practices varied across the organisation, with time-consuming processes and inconsistent KPIs making it difficult to establish trust in the data. Operational and project teams were often working from different assumptions, limiting the value of analytics and slowing decisions. We identified an opportunity to centralise data and reporting to create a common language, improve transparency, and reduce reliance on manual reporting methods.
APPROACH
An organisation-wide engagement model was established, including detailed workshops, stakeholder interviews, and system reviews across operations, corporate functions, IT, data, and risk teams. Existing reporting practices were mapped and assessed against business needs. Through this process, a delivery model and governance framework were developed iteratively, ensuring strong alignment and ownership. The result was a standardised approach to defining, delivering, and maintaining reporting projects that could scale across diverse functions and project types.
SOLUTION
The engagement delivered a centralised Data and Visualisation Hub, integrating with global data platform and consolidating key data sources. A central KPI repository established consistency across operational, financial, and safety reporting. Most reports were transitioned to automated pipelines, supported by interactive dashboards and self-service tools. The governance model—developed over multiple project cycles—was adopted as the enterprise-wide standard for data and reporting delivery, supporting over 20 projects delivered largely on time and within budget.
IMPACT
The program significantly improved the quality, reliability, and accessibility of reporting across the organisation. Teams gained greater confidence in shared metrics, while visualisation tools enhanced the speed and clarity of insights. The standardised delivery and governance model has since been embedded as the foundation for all reporting initiatives, driving consistency and efficiency.
Headline Metric or Attention-Grabbing Note
Delivered 20+ reporting projects across multiple sites within a year, with a centralised data hub and interactive dashboards. Streamlined reporting processes led to a 60-70% reduction in manual reporting time and increased trust in data, with the unified governance model now adopted as the enterprise-wide standard for all reporting initiatives.
