Case Study - Short Term Schedule Reporting Platform Establishment

CLIENT OVERVIEW

Our client runs a large copper mine and processing plant in a remote area. They need daily and weekly reports for mine planning and progress tracking. The quality and reliability of these reports have directly affected their operations, requiring significant daily effort to maintain them.

THE CHALLENGE

The business wanted to implement a reporting platform that would host a series of automated operational dashboards to support the mining manager and supervisors and enable access to timely information. Although the reporting platform would initially be implemented for just the mining capability, it would eventually be utilised for other key functions, and needs to remain flexible to adapt to future needs.

APPROACH

We collaborated closely with the mine manager to gather requirements and designed dashboard prototypes through a detailed wireframing process. A continuous feedback loop during development ensured our progress was aligned with evolving requirements from key stakeholders, securing the quality and execution of the designs. This strategy maintained high standards for deliverables and enabled adaptability essential for the project’s long-term success.

SOLUTION

Thorough wireframing enabled the definition and function of the dashboards to be tested prior to any technical development activities being undertaken.  This provided a low-cost approach to prototype finalisation. Using a simple but comprehensive platform, such as PowerBI, to develop the prototypes enables ease of communication and review.

IMPACT

The reporting platform, with its integrated dashboards, has reduced manual effort in weekly planning and tracking. It provides a real-time, comprehensive view of operations, enabling informed decision-making and efficient resource allocation. This has streamlined the workflow, improved performance monitoring, and increased overall productivity.
