Leonard is an expert geological consultant who has worked in a range of senior management positions in government geoscience establishing reliable systems for mapping and assessment of mineral and energy resources. He was responsible for managing the updating of mineral occurrences and monitoring the effectiveness of exploration company activities for assessment and management by the government. Leonard has also consulted with major coal seam gas producers in integrating company drilling and updating geological surface and subsurface mapping in eastern Queensland’s major Surat Basin coal seam gas-producing geological units.
Leonard has 49 years of experience as a geologist, senior geologist, project and program leader, Chief Government Geologist, university lecturer, and private geological consultant. He has 25 years of practical experience working in coal, mineral resources, monitoring the growth of conventional oil and gas and non-conventional coal seam gas, stratigraphic drilling, basin analysis, remote sensing, geophysics interpretation, geographic Information systems and geological mapping for the Geological Survey of Queensland. He has an additional 15 years as a senior executive manager of major geological projects, tenure management, and legislation with the Queensland government, 4 years as a chief government geologist and international consultant tenure assessor in Papua New Guinea, a year lecturing in Geological mapping, remote sensing and Geographic information systems at the University of Hong Kong, and a further 3.5 years as a private geological consultant and CEO of Cranfield Geological Services International delivering updates to the location of coal seam gas producing units, identifying significant white burning clay resources and most recently integrating data on coal occurrences and potential copper and gold resources at the margin of the Bowen Basin.
As a subject matter expert and leading practitioner in integrating all geological, remote sensing, drilling, and geophysical data and generating concepts for identifying new Greenfields areas and motivating and training effective project teams, Leonard has significant experience identifying and implementing projects across different geological terranes, with effective exploration processes to create digital data to optimize new knowledge.
With his deep understanding of the exploration industry, Leonard has challenged accepted methods of exploration and has shown how improvements in geophysics, geochemistry, and other technologies can improve the understanding of the potential economic properties of the project and improve investor confidence.
